I only ever bought one Moloko single, Pure Pleasure Seeker. I loved the hook as well as the driving, manic ending of the song! But, I love Murphy for her lack of self awareness and willingness to embrace anything, fashion wise. Her insta account is a riot of posts and stories. My tag on there is ‘captivated by the image’ and Murphy captivates me every time she posts!
She is such a great Instagram follow, and Pure Pleasure Seeker is a banger. I remember seeing the video for their debut single, Fun for Me, on TOPT2, and thinking: this is something I want to get involved with. And then it turned out Roisin made not only quirky electro pop but also massive house tunes like Sing It Back, which I love. But I've always had an especial soft spot for her turn on the Handsome Boy Modelling School album, on a song called The Truth. I bought that when it came out during my early days of getting into hiphop -- it was a gateway because it had a bunch of indie-rock-ish artists I already liked collaborating with a bunch of artists who would become my faves (first time I heard El-P and, I think, Prince Paul). The Truth is this gorgeous, fluid, wry ballad about giving up on a partner, and Roisin's delivery has exactly the blend of warmth and detachment.
