I Love You, Honeybear is my favourite of his albums, if you want some pre-festival homework. I think of him as a kind of Loudon Wainwright crossed with Serge Gainsbough (a LOT of Serge in the new one), or Ben Folds as a ladies man with chamber pop inclinations.
The "flawed Christ" observation about Giametti in The Holdovers is perfect, btw. Maybe there's something about doing the self-sacrifice bit in the midst of the festivities: Christmas only means anything because Easter in on the way, iyswim.
